FM Translator ‘Open Window’ Fetches $4M So Far

by | Aug 17, 2016 | BIA, Blog, Broadcast, Radio

On July 29th, the FCC opened a window for FM translator sales. Each week, we will report on activity throughout the open window period that ends in late October. More details and analysis are here.

_______

Since the July 29th window opening for FM translators, there have been a flurry of sales. In just the last week (August 5-12), we have monitored 11 more FM translators sales filed at the FCC for a total value of $357.5 thousand. This brings the total to date 88 sales of nearly $4 million in value.

We expect that the sales activity will continue to be strong as there is a tremendous opportunity for AM stations to improve their service (especially at night) utilizing these FM translators. In fact, According to BIA/Kelsey’s Media Access Pro™, as of August 15th, there are 1,727 AM stations utilizing 1,961 FM translators.
