BIA/Kelsey LIVE, Episode 10: MapQuest Redux

by | Dec 1, 2016 | BIA, Blog

It’s been a while since we’ve caught up with MapQuest. The original online mapping and navigation tool is still going strong and is going deeper into local and enterprise utilities. That’s been advanced most recently with its acquisition of Social Radar and asset tracking API.

Elise Neel, head of MapQuest for Business, sat down to talk with BIA/Kelsey’s Mitch Ratcliffe on today’s BIA/Kelsey LIVE (replay embedded below). She explained how the recently acquired Social Radar has a business mapping service that will be integrated into MapQuest search results.

For example, Social Radar’s data can make routing results more specific, such as showing a wheel-chair accessible building entrance. This builds from Social Radar’s competency in location details, such as where entrances to a building are or things like nearby points of interest.

Social Radar was founded by Michael Chasen, who previously founded educational software developer Blackboard. It was acquired by MapQuest parent Verizon last month for an undisclosed sum. The company had raised $12.75 million in funding from a group of backers including AOL founder Steve Case.
