Tom Buono
Founder and CEO
As Founder and CEO, Tom has spent more than 40 years building BIA from the ground up into a diversified group of firms delivering data, advisory, technology, and financial services to the media and advertising industries. A visionary leader who pairs analytical rigor with entrepreneurial instinct, he has kept BIA a step ahead through four decades of industry transformation. Executives across broadcast, digital, and advertising rely on Tom and his team for the insight behind their most important strategic and investment decisions.
Tom’s vision spans the entire BIA family of companies. He built BIA Advisory Services into a leading data analytics, consulting, and valuation firm whose market intelligence and forecasts help local media and advertising clients plan, invest, and grow.
He extended BIA’s impact beyond media delivery by creating and guiding SpectraRep, which puts broadcast infrastructure to work for public safety and emergency communications applications. He was also the driving force behind BIA Capital Strategies, LLC, a communications-focused investment bank, and BIA Digital Partners LP, a mezzanine investment fund. Together, these businesses enabled BIA to serve clients end-to-end, from market data and technology through capital and transactions over the years.
Tom is widely recognized as a leading authority on communications industry valuations, investments, and strategy, and has valued billions of dollars in communications assets. He has testified before Congress, served as an expert witness in numerous valuation disputes, spoken at events hosted by nearly every major communications trade association, and is frequently quoted in trade and national press.
Tom graduated summa cum laude from Clarkson College of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics. He then joined General Electric’s highly selective Financial Management Program, finishing in the top 10 percent nationally. He then went on to earn his M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
