Robert Kempf
VP and General Manager, NPR Digital Services
Bob Kempf leads NPR’s Digital Services division, dedicated to providing all NPR member stations with editorial leadership, business intelligence, digital products and revenue support. The division’s goal is to help stations develop local digital audience and impact comparable to radio.
During the past two years The Digital Services group has developed and launched a wide range of initiatives including a robust content management system, a responsive mobile web application, comprehensive digital news training, comprehensive analytics for public media, and platforms to support membership marketing and corporate underwriting. Kempf’s team works closely with NPR's award-winning Digital Media division to further collaboration between NPR and member stations and further NPR's goal of developing a multi-platform, local-national news network.
Prior to joining NPR in 2010, Kempf served as vice president of product and technology at Boston.com, the website of The Boston Globe. As one of the architects of the Globe’s two-brand strategy, he helped to design the initiative that extends the company’s digital footprint across multiple platforms. He also served as vice president, interactive at Gatehouse Media and as director, Internet product development for Dow Jones Local Media Group.
Kempf is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in political science and philosophy. He was a 2010 fellow in the Sulzberger News Media Executive Leadership program at Columbia University.
