The business of
networked digital displays and digital signage in places such as
retail stores, sports events, financial institutions,
transportation platforms, and other public areas is growing
rapidly. Studies indicate that more than half of highway
travelers notice digital billboards and signs, with a high level
of retention. Overall, public sentiment regarding digital
signage is positive. With billboards capable of displaying
news, traffic, weather notices and emergency alerts, over 80% of
people in a recent Arbitron study consider digital signs
helpful, informative and often times - entertaining.
Given the slow growth in internet advertising and other
challenges, companies are trying to identify more effective
advertising channels and how to best reach consumers and
stakeholders. Many businesses are still unaware of how digital
signage can positively impact their business. And yet,
according to industry researchers The Carmel Group, by year-end
2010 the US digital signage industry will garner more than $2.5
billion in annual revenues.
