Daily Newspapers - East and West Coasts Garner Higher Revenue Shares
Friday, July 22, 2005
BIA Financial Research (BIAfn) recently reported that there was a 3.6% overall revenue increase in 2004 for daily newspapers and that East and West Coast newspapers garner disproportionately higher revenue shares, given that they only account for one-sixth of all daily newspapers respectively. East Coast newspapers obtained nearly a quarter of all daily newspaper advertising revenues (24.6%) while the West Coast garnered more than a fifth (21.2%). The map below shows both the share of total daily newspapers and share of revenues generated in the five regions of the country.

As Fratrik explained, factors such as the economy, politics and demographics played a role in putting this market at the top of the list.
