BIA/Kelsey Unveils ‘Video Local Media’ Advisory Service
to Serve Cross-Platform Media and Technology Companies
VLM is the next generation of BIA/Kelsey’s broadcast advisory
service, which has been refocused to emphasize the disruptive influence
of local video advertising in the local media market
CHANTILLY, Va. (Oct. 17, 2011) -BIA/Kelsey,
adviser to companies in the local media space,
today announced it has refocused its Digital Strategies for Broadcasting
(DSB) advisory service to concentrate on the business and technology
strategies in local video networks, devices and content market segments.
Reflecting its new emphasis, the enhanced program unveiled today has
been renamed Video Local Media (VLM). It will examine emerging business
models among offline and online video media that are changing the rules
of engagement in local markets in terms of audiences, advertisers and
media.
BIA/Kelsey’s research shows that local video advertising is
a disruptive force in the local media space. The firm’s Local
Commerce Monitor: SMB Plus Spenders study indicates small and medium-sized
businesses spending at least $25,000 annually on advertising are on
track to double usage of local video advertising by 2015. The firm’s
research also reveals 54 percent of this group intends to purchase
video advertising from one source and run it across multiple platforms.
“Broadcasting has morphed from local over-the-air broadcast
television stations into multiple forms of video on heterogeneous networks
and devices,” said Rick Ducey, BIA/Kelsey’s chief strategy
officer and program director, Video Local Media. “This means
there isn’t a single broadcast business environment, but a whole
ecosystem of content, technology and media businesses that will work
together under emerging business models to set the new rules of engagement
with audiences, advertisers and media. By restructuring our DSB program
to focus on video, we will more powerfully serve both our media and
technology clients by providing deep intelligence about the market’s
direction and viable economic opportunities.”
Video Local Media clients are companies with a stake in the future
of video as it relates to networks, devices, advertising, content,
out of home, mobile, cross-platform and social. Client companies include
broadcasters, cable, satellite, local telephone companies, digital
out of home (DOOH), Internet and mobile.
The Video Local Media advisory service will offer clients access to BIA/Kelsey’s
highly regarded Local Media Forecast, a comprehensive and authoritative view
of the local media landscape published twice annually. Additionally, clients
will have access to the firm’s team of knowledgeable analysts, informative
and timely reports covering topics such as:
BIA/Kelsey will host a free webinar on Thursday, Oct. 20, titled, “Examining
